Potluck

May 13, 2013

One, then two, three sailing Turkey Vultures. They glide, carving smooth turns around and around, their white wing tips translucent in the evening sun. Six turkey vultures circle effortlessly overhead the garden party. Another group of six joins them, flows adjacent to the first spinning vultures. One by one vultures merge exchanging circles. The celebrants stop chewing and drinking, crane their necks and contemplate. Do the vultures smell the meat cooking on the grill, a meal to be claimed, waiting patiently for the first fool’s flesh to hit the ground. The once carefree celebrants tuck into their coats and move inside.
