Lonely

March 22,2013

A round chickadee shimmies to the farthest reach of a branch. She peers through the kitchen window as if she wants to join our dinner conversation. She likely has a sad story to tell. How the neighbor’s plump cat has eaten all her friends. How she wishes birds shed tears to wash away the pain. She crooks her neck and lingers another moment before she turns and hops into the obfuscation of knit willows and disappears.
